Why the artistic freedom is always selective in India? Tyeb Mehta painted the Kali series in the Kala Bhavan of Shantiniketan and he faced no problems from the liberal Communists which is of course welcome but Taslima Nasreen was literally deported out of West Bengal and finally out of India because she criticized Islam and Sharia law in the context of women's liberty. How is that?

CB@ You have raised a very legitimate issue.We Hindus are only responsible for this. We think that it is our bloody moral duty to shoulder the burden of secularism of our own. We may receive kicks at our back from Muslims, Christians, but we should not protest. We should not take revenge. A few days back The Statesman had written an obituary on Mokbul Fida Hussain. The same statesman had to apologies to the Muslims for publishing an article written by a foreigner on Hazarat Muhammad.Our hounouable court had to rephrase a part of it's judgement on the Dara Singh case because that initial judgement was found objectionable by an influential section of the christian community. Our West Bengal Chief minister had given official status to almost 10,000 Madrasas to please the muslims. Alarmingly most of these Madrasas are mushrooming across Indo Bangladesh border region of West Bengal. The population demography of these districts are changing alarmingly.Govt of India spent huge sum as subsidy for the Haz visitors. West Bengal Govt had spent liberaly on Madrasas as financial aid( though as sleep of tongue our ex CM had admitted that these Madrasas are birth places of all anti national activities). Do our intelligence departments know what are the actual activities of those 10000 odd Madrasas? If Our CM is not alert then she would be riding a tiger which would go beyond her administrative control one day. But do our politicians have any sympathy towards Sanskrit Chatuspathis ? Most of these institutions are are under tremendous financial crisis.Do we know in Tripura how aggressively the Christian missionaries are converting tribal Hindus to Christianity? Don't think that Muslims and Christians are as slack as the Secular Hindus. There is no mercy in case they face any attack on their religion. At least can we not learn this positive quality from these Semitic religions? We should learn to protest, if it does not work then we should learn how to defend against planned attacks

Master artist Tyeb Mehta scaled a new record in Indian art as his 1998 untitled work went for Rs 5.72 crore at Saffronart's auction, setting a new record in online bidding. Mehta's Untitled (Kali) painting was sold for the record price at the two-day auction that concluded on June 16 and fetched a total of Rs 17.5 crore in sales.

The paintings are deplorable.

I have shared my views in the photo section. No resemblance with Maa Kali.... It might have fetched some good amount but the artists imagination is very poor....Works of imagination should be pure ...

Any religious inflammation is not acceptable to civilian society and will only push us back to stone age and ice age where dinosaurs will relish human flesh.

Why are you crying with your own paradox and creation? Hindu mythology is thriving with illicit sex and you dont restrict imagination as you call it universalism, openness, democracy and so many other nice adjectives. what's wrong if the artist imagines like this? As brother maaz said, Islam does not support any form attached to God and so this questions does not arise, it has been nipped in the bud and that is why Islam is the prefect and only true religion. It is the nuisance value of idol worship, and as long as you worship myriad of objects, some quite strange, it is bound to happen my liberal friend.

dannym, are not you ashamed as a Hindu whose fanatics burn a sleeping man and his 2 young sons alive? Was there any condemnation by your Sankaracharyas? Don't put humanity to more shame by defending these fanatics, crooks, and fraudsters. This is my appeal to you.

1.your statement "what's wrong if the artist imagines like this" is funny. What was wrong with the Cartoonist of Denmark who had drawn some imaginary cartoons on Hazarat Muhammad? Can you say in printed words that there was nothing wrong in painting Hazarat Muhammad like this because that cartoonist had only exercised his imagination? You are liberal in case of other religion, but in case of your own religion you are highly sensitive. If Islam is so liberal then why fatwa and life threat was announced against Salaman Rushdi for his literary imagination? Would you have accepted the photograph of Hazaeat Muhammad having sex with his daughter in law painted by a Fida Husain or a Tyeb Mehta?

2. Many Karsevakas were burnt to death by Muslims in the Sabarmati express which had triggered the Godhra riot. This had been proved in the court. Are you not ashamed for this? Are you not ashamed of the attack on Sankatmochan temple, Akshardham temple and many other Hindu religious places by Islamic fundamentalists? Have we ever seen any Imam condemning?

3. Hindus believe in idol worship, Christians worship cross and Jesus. But if your god is formless then why do you offer your prayer by facing a certain direction? This is very surprising you do not know how your god looks like.On the contrary lots of Hindu sadhus and Bhaktas have seen their god in their own eyes.If a figure comes to you can you distinguish whether he is your Allha or a satan? This is really unfortunate. If I ask you to bring fire from somewhere then what do you do? You take a piece of paper/ wood get the fire on it and bring. For this you require a medium. otherwise you can not bring fire. Like wise the all mighty god is everywhere but in order to make him available or within reach, a medium is required that is why Hindus believe in idol worship.
